Am I required to be polite to a rude elderly person?
I was on a bus and an elderly lady started swearing at me.I was standing in the aisle, and the bus was so filled with people. I was standing right next to her. My book bag accidentally brushed by her arm.
She called me an 'f*****g klutz', and worse. She then seemed to be mumbling to herself how much she hated me, as if she hated me her whole life...For a good 5 minutes this woman was swearing at me, I was pissed- I so wanted to tell her to STFU. but bit my tongue and kept apologizing. When i left the bus, she flipped me the bird!!!! If an elderly person is very rude to you, what would you do?
A friend of mine who is in his 20s and black was recently called the 'N' word by a white lady in her 80s...He was speechless-
Another friend who works security in a famous retail chain, keeps catching elderly people shoplifting, and won't hesitate to use the F word on them if they cop an attitude. What would you do if an elderly person gets VERY rude with you?
For the elderly lady to be on the bus at all indicates that perhaps she doesn't have very much money...and is required to take the bus,...even on days when she may very well be in pain from all the aches and pains that old people experience when their old bodies started breaking down.
When people behave that way...especially if they are old....they are usually in pain from arthritis or some other dreadful constant thing....it is hard to be pleasant...and easy to fly off the handle...when one is already gritting one's teeth trying to endure pain..
I always try to think that it must be awful to be old, in pain, and miserable.... and I try to be polite....no matter what these old OBNOXIOUS GITS spew out...
People will notice and think what a nice young man you are....being so pleasant to such a mean OLD GIT!
